Fire engine Praga and Škoda from Finland. The Brno exhibition grounds attracted historic cars
/PHOTO, VIDEO/ Unique historic cars and spare parts for such machines. Vintage car enthusiasts gathered on Saturday at the Brno Exhibition Center, where the spring VeteránTechna was held. This is an exhibition of historic cars, components, spare parts and documentation. There is also a stock exchange.
People viewed unique cars that are now often seen only in films or TV series. In Pavilion Z, there was a parade of almost a hundred cars and motorbikes. "We do it as a presentation of clubs. There is the Praga club, the Tatra club, the Zbrojovka club, the Velorex club, the Volvo club," says the main organizer Jan Šustáček, listing some of the brands represented.
He estimates that around two to three thousand people will turn up at the exhibition grounds throughout the day. The positive news is the favorable weather. "An interesting piece is the Škoda 1201, the so-called Sedan. It is a Czech car made in 1957, which was shipped to Finland and returned last year with all the papers. It was intended for export," says the enthusiast.
A renovated fire engine, the Praga, is parked at entrance number 1. „The guys from the Praga club have been renovating it for twenty or thirty years,“ says Šustáček.
Other larger vehicles on display at the exhibition site on Saturday include a newly restored Tatra 148 concrete mixer and a Škoda 706 Trambus fire truck standing next to it. "The cost of renovation for such cars is different. It runs into the millions. Just the paint for such a large car is around two hundred to three hundred thousand," says the historic car expert.
The event includes a spare parts exchange for vintage motorbikes, cars and tractors. In addition to Pavilion Z, they also occupy the outdoor area around the iconic building. "There are people here who pull things out of various sheds, cellars or attics, but there are also those who do it professionally and make individual parts that are not available," outlines Šustáček.
For example, at the exhibition center there is a seller who makes new seat upholstery, including foam fillings, a person who makes handlebars, and another who makes exhausts. "These are all things that are usually hard to find. There is also a person who makes headlight lenses for various motorcycles," says Šustáček.
In addition to Czechs, Slovaks, Germans, Austrians and Poles also come to this event. "This year there are even Norwegians here and a lot of people come from the Baltic states, for example from Lithuania," says the organizer.
